Get ready to have all of your colorblocking wishes come true. Because the new Sage dress pattern from Made for Mermaids is what dreams are made of. Seriously. During testing, the sewists in the group could not stop making more and more of these dresses. I wish I’d had time to join them…one day I will have multiples of this cutie. ONE DAY all the SAGEs will be MIIIIIIINE. Let’s get to talking about what makes it so stinking great.
Sage is an easy-to-fit, relaxed style dress. It features set-in sleeves, and this adorable split hem in multiple lengths (mini, dress, mini, and maxi). On top of that, there are about a million other things to mix and match like sleeves (tank, short, 3/4 and long), split hem heights (low, mid, high, and extra high), as well as necklines (high, low scoop and low v). It looks adorable in every single variation, trust me.
I created a maxi length for myself, with the colorblocked version, in a short sleeve with the low scoop neckline. I was SO excited to have a reason to finally use this adorable knit eyelet fabric — without needing to line it. By adding it to the bottom row of the blocks, it was low enough that I wasn’t showing any extra skin and I didn’t have to add a safety fabric underneath. I love it so much.
The fit is super easy to nail on this tshirt style dress. It’s slightly fitted in the bust, and then super generous everywhere else. I don’t tend to like a looser fit on my frame, but something about having the fun blocking and the slit on the side made me forget all of my woes in that regards.
Plus it helped that I followed the fabric recommendations and used fabrics with a good drape. That way, it was flowing back to my body and not tenting off of it. Figure flattering at it’s finest!
What do you think, do we have a winner here?
