I Heart You | Free Crochet Hat Pattern

Jan 10, 2014

This hat was born from a koozie that I’ve recently made (and will be offering in the shop soon).  This is my second crochet pattern that I’ve managed to write up so there is still room for error.  If you find any weird spots in the workup or if you have any questions please just ask!

***You’re more than welcome to sell finished products from this pattern.  I only ask that you give me credit and link back to this pattern.  Please play nice and don’t claim the pattern or photos as your own.  If you do end up making a hat from my pattern, I’d love to see the results!  Link me to your blog, email me a photo (katy@handmadeescapade) or post it to my Facebook page.  I want to see what you can do!!

Heart Applique (in red)

Magic Ring, Ch 3, 5 DC, 1 TR, 5 DC, Ch 3, sl st in magic ring.

**you can choose to stop at this point for a smaller heart if you’d like.  Continue to the next round for a little bit larger one.

Round 2: Ch 4, 1 TR (in first DC from previous round), 4 DC, 3 TR (in TR from previous round), 4 DC, 1 TR (in last DC from previous round), Ch 4, sl st in center of magic ring.  Fasten off.

I like using FPDC to finish the bottom of my hats because it gives it a more textured look, as well as a sturdier spot for you to pull your hats on and off.  Just a little extra pizzazz, you know?  The two hats pictured are made in the toddler and newbie sizes.  I used to hand stitch all of my extra pieces onto hats but got tired of the extra work and now I use my trusty fabric glue.  The best I’ve found so far for quick apply/dry is Fabritac, which you can find pretty much anywhere (JoAnns, WalMart, Amazon, Michaels…).  It’s a little stinky but does the job!

Happy Crocheting!

Disclosure: As always, you’ll find some affiliate links scattered within my post, which means I receive a small amount of compensation if you end up purchasing something I’ve recommended.  Keep in mind that I link these companies and their products because of their quality and not because of the commission I receive from your purchases. The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.  Purchasing from my links does not alter the pricing in any way for you, it simply helps feed my sewing, creating and blogging habits.  Thank you for your support!
