Sunday Lately :: Week 5

Feb 1, 2015

Week 5 is happening now!  If you haven’t linked up yet, you totally should!
This week’s themes: Completing, Visiting, Repeating, Applauding, Scheduling

Completing: A whole bunch of to-do’s this weekend.  There is going to be this AMAZING blog series all of February in the sewing community and I signed up to be a part of it.  It’s called “Boys Can Wear Pink” and it’s helping break down some gender barriers and hopefully make some people question why we are giving power and gender to a color.  It’s just a color.  (And it’s one of my biggest pet peeves in life.)  I’ll be featured on February 3, but if you want to see a roundup of all of the clothing inspiration, Handmade Boy will have it HERE on her blog.

Visiting: The fabric store on Saturday was the worst.  No, really.  I always complain about the JoAnns closest to me but this visit took the cake.  They had only two people on staff and lines that I had to stand in for 30 minutes (one for cutting and again for checking out).  It was awful.  I don’t know how you can understaff like that on a Saturday.  Get it together, JoAnns!

Repeating: The soundtrack from Guardians of the Galaxy over and over and over again in our living room.  And dancing my butt off to all of them.  Seriously, that movie has THE BEST soundtrack ever.  Tunes from the 70’s?  Yes please!  And we take it an extra level of dorkiness by having it on vinyl.  Because we are the McKinleys and this is just how we roll.

Applauding: My husband.  Because he rocks.  I told him about the Boys Can Wear Pink series and he was on board in an instant.  And when I was picking out fabrics and showed him my ideas, he told me I needed more pink.  Which is quite the opposite of what some women, as well as some of the women actually in the series, are hearing from their husband’s.  I love that Bennett and I are on the same page as each other when it comes to gender issues.  We are very much for Gender Neutrality and our little threesome does things that feel natural to us, not what is viewed as the norm.  It’s a comfortable and rewarding way to live.

Scheduling:Blog posts for this coming week.  Because, um….my blog was empty all of last week.  Whoops.  I have things to write and share, I just spent the majority of my computer time trying to get my website worked out and had new designs hit the shop.  Things are happening slowly but surely and I need about ten more of me to get everything accomplished in a timely manner.  Cloning never works in movies, right?  So I shouldn’t try it??

Disclosure: As always, you’ll find some affiliate links scattered within my post, which means I receive a small amount of compensation if you end up purchasing something I’ve recommended.  Keep in mind that I link these companies and their products because of their quality and not because of the commission I receive from your purchases. The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.  Purchasing from my links does not alter the pricing in any way for you, it simply helps feed my sewing, creating and blogging habits.  Thank you for your support!

    I love that your husband is so supportive and is telling you to use more pink! That's fantastic.

    My Joann's is no better. I was introduced to CreateByTheYard.com through the company I work for. I was a little skeptical about buying fabric online (you can't see it or feel it!! The horror!!) but I really loved the items I picked and the quality. It may be a little more expensive, but worth checking out.

    I actually do most of my fabric shopping online as well. Mostly because my JoAnns drives me bonkers. I didn't know about Create By the Yard, though. Totally checking that out!

    Please let me know how you like it! She has really well known brands and the colors have been pretty true to what I see on my screen.
