Hot Diggity Dog! :: Delilah Turns Two

Apr 27, 2015

Apparently it’s not just my child that continues to grow and change despite the wishes and efforts of their parents and loved ones.  Because Delilah just celebrated her 2nd birthday on Saturday (her actual birthday was yesterday).

Two.  TWO.  It feels like she just turned one.  It hasn’t been a year already, has it?

Isn’t she a beauty?  That hair!  Those big eyes!  Her need to tease me and pretend that she doesn’t want a million tickles, hugs and kisses from me!  It’s all perfection.

Sierra and Nick put together a pretty flawless Minnie Mouse party for their little gal.  It’s not hard to tell that Sierra and I are sisters.  We must have a theme and carry it through everything.  The party was super cute and so were all of the elements in it!

The weather was pretty crappy (read: cold and rainy) so we had to move everything inside.  But it really worked out perfectly because their house has red, black and white elements throughout the whole place…so their house was also color coordinated.  They chose to use the “classic” Minnie colors, which makes this nostalgic gal happy because I don’t understand why they had to change Minnie’s dress to pink.  Red was great.  Why ruin a good thing?

I was super excited when Sierra asked me if I could make a dress for the birthday girl.  Yes please!  I used the Made for Mermaids Emma Knit dress pattern, but I used the simple skirt and created it in a tunic length with 3/4 sleeves.  Which turned out perfectly because it was too cold for anything more summery.

And I, of course, couldn’t help but make something to theme Louis to the party as well.  So I busted out my trusty ole’ Patterns for Pirates Jolly Roger Raglan and made him a Mickey Mouse shirt.  Which would have been perfection, had I not melted the front-middle of the shirt with my iron.  This is why I don’t iron.  Because it’s apparently too hard for me to handle.

I tried really hard to get a picture of D while she was standing up, so we could see the full length of the dress on her.  But she’s two and feisty and didn’t want to cooperate.  She’s all “Aunt Katy, I don’t have time to pose for your silly photos.  I have cake to eat and presents to open.”

I get it, girlfriend.  I totally do.

Speaking of presents, Delilah is hysterical.  I have never seen a 2-year old be so attentive about presents.  I remember her being that way on her first birthday as well.  She’s all business, that niece of mine.

One of my favorite parts of this weekend was that we got to share it with my Momma.  This is her first birthday party she’s been able to attend for her grandbabies and I think it was a great way to kick off her big move.  (We will just pretend that she didn’t have an insanely stressful week leading up to it.)

The birthday girl might be an expert present opener (and cake eater!) but she needs to work on her candle blowing skills.  You wouldn’t believe how fast her Momma and Grandma moved when D went to touch the candle flame instead of blowing it out.  Haha.  Hysterical.  With a little help from her Mom, though, the candle was out and we were able to inhale the adorable and delicious cupcakes made in D’s honor.

It was an adorable and delightful birthday party.  And I am so happy that we got to celebrate with the family again this year.  I’m just hoping that maybe one of these times we can have the whole gang…Bennett, Billy and Meaghan included.  Bennett is usually with us but stayed back to move all of Mom’s belongings into her new house, so that Mom could make the trip and not have to worry about extra work needed to get done before she started her job.  Which was super sweet but we sure missed him.

Hot diggity dog, it was a fun weekend in Indiana!

Happy birthday, sweet Delilah!  We love you!

It's not a hard sell that she's my sister. We like a good theme and aren't afraid to be a little wacky and creative.
