Sunday Lately :: Week 14

Apr 5, 2015

Happy Easter!  It might be a holiday and I’m out of town, roaming our country’s capital…but I couldn’t let myself miss out on a round of Sunday Lately.
This week’s themes: Updating, Reminding, Wearing, Needing, Being

Updating. Our “been there, seen that” list this weekend while we are in DC.  We are here this weekend to attend the White House’s Easter Egg Roll but to also explore the city a little.  The great thing about being in DC during a holiday is that it’s practically empty. Which means us little wide-eyed small town kids can explore all of it’s grandeur without the regular hustle and bustle of people on Capitol Hill.  We are hoping to hit up the National Zoo today and possibly a monument or two.  STOKED.

Reminding. Myself to take it all in while we are here.  I’m nowhere near being a city girl.  In fact, I generally hate anything with this many roads, cars and people.  But there is something extra special about DC.  The architecture alone is breathtaking.  I love that you can pretty much see the Capitol and the Monument from anywhere you stand.

Wearing. Our Katy-made outfits on Monday for the Egg Roll.  I’m totally geeking out about having clothing for all three of us.  I’m used to making a million things for myself and Lou, but to have Bennett in a shirt made by me too…it’s kinda extra special.  And dorky.  But special.

Needing. To remember silly moments like the one we had last night, when Louis went on his first escalator as a solo ride.  We had to ride it extra times just so he could enjoy it even more.  It’s pretty hysterical watching him muster up the courage to take the step onto it.  He wanted to, but wasn’t sure of the timing so would always hesitate.  I thought for sure he’d been on an escalator before…but maybe we’ve always held him.  Regardless, it was sweet.  And silly.  And one of the moments to save in my momma memory bank.

Being. Incredibly excited about the Egg Roll tomorrow.  We had SO. MUCH. FUN. the first go-round.  And I’m predicting the same amount of fun this time too.  Plus Louis is a little older and things are always a little easier with him as time goes on.  We got to see a preview of the lineup of characters, celebrities, athletes and people that will be in attendance…and there are some that I’m really hoping we get to see during our timeslot.  35,000 people will all be filtering on and off of the White House lawn all day on Monday and we will be three of those people.  It’s insanity but in a controlled way.  SO EXCITED!!!

    It's so cool that you're doing an Easter Egg Roll at the White House. I'm still blown away by that. There are days when I have to think very hard about how I'm getting on an escalator. I know I'll wipe out in front of a mall full of people one day.

    The fear is the same as when my sister fell on the treadmill and wasn't wearing that little thing that attaches to your clothes and makes it stop. Her poor chin.

    The thing I don't talk about a lot is that my father-in-law is the Congressman for WV's 1st District. I don't want people to think anything bad or good of me because of his title…I'm just me, doing my thing, mooching off of some of the benefits that come with it like the Easter Egg roll or special tours of important buildings. 🙂
