Full blown confession: We were gifted a tent (and AWESOME, AMAZING, GIANT tent) for wedding and we haven’t used it yet. In our defense, we did get pregnant pretty much right after the wedding…and we weren’t sure if Louis would be up for camping or not. The idea of working to get everything together and then have him freak out, making us have to cancel our plans didn’t sound like a great idea. Seriously. I could only picture us getting a campsite all set up and then Louis having a breakdown because he didn’t want to camp.
So. We thought that maybe it’d be a good idea to test out camping in our own front yard. Just to see how Louis felt about it. And you know what? He LOVED it.
We just plopped our tent right in the front yard. Close enough to the house that we could sleep inside if Louis decided it wasn’t his thing. But we treated it like camping as much as we could. We didn’t go into the house once we started our night. We cooked our food over a fire. We hunted for marshmallow roasting sticks. And we remained unplugged all evening.
It was super fun.
Everything is a tossup with Louis. He either will love it with his whole heart. Or hate it. With his whole heart. I’m happy he loved this experience. Because we are hoping to squeeze in a camping trip before the summer ends. Maybe Coopers Rock? That’s where Bennett is hoping to travel. We will see if we have time to make the journey!
^^Lou snapped this picture of me on my big DSLR camera. I’m pretty impressed. Kiddo is getting good at his photo snapping. For the most part. I won’t show you the super blurry images of butts and bugs that he takes all the time. 😉
Front yard camping was an uuber success. We slept all night under the stars and it was wonderful. It also helps that the nights are really cool this summer, so it was down in the low 60’s while we slept. Made for a good, cuddle under the blankets kind of night.
Our tent has a mesh top that you can leave the cover off of and be able to stare at the stars while drifting off to sleep. It was a 0% chance of rain, so we chose to do just that. It was really pretty and peaceful. (Except at 5:30am when the birds that live in our chimney decided to be super loud and go out for the day as a giant group of 100+ birds. Weirdly, I’m the only one who was woken by that.)
Hope your weekend was grand, friends! Happy Monday!
