Birthdays and School and Skates, Oh My!

Aug 20, 2015

Yesterday was quite the big day for our little Louis.  He turned FIVE, had his first day of school (Junior Kindergarten 4, what what!), went to Chuck E. Cheese with us and Nana to celebrate, and learned to roller skate for the first time.

And he loved every second of it.

I wanted to make something special for Louis’ big day, so I asked him what he wanted.  He did not hesitate one bit.

I want a shirt that says “JK4 is the best” and a guy doing this. (Puts hand up in the air with a fist pump.)

There was no way I would say no to that.  So I got to work.  He was very pleased with the results.

My Mom came down after Louis got out of school and we headed to Chuck E. Cheese for another round of play.  Mom took us there last year for his birthday and he had a blast, so it was perfect to do it again.  We stuffed ourselves with pizza and played all the games…Louis picked out some silly toys as prizes from the tickets we won…and fun was had by all.

After we made it home, Bennett and I gave Louis his gift from us.  He’s been wanting a pair of roller skates for a long time now and we finally made it happen for him.  Lou has never skated before, so it was mostly holding his hand and trying to teach him how to get used to being on wheels.

He did so awesome!  We kept coaching him and letting Louis know that it was okay to fall because he had gear to protect him.  I love that he was so brave and wasn’t afraid to topple over.

Eventually, he was ready to rock all by himself.  Any time he fell, he got right back up and tried again.  I’m not saying he was a pro by the end of it, but he was doing great for a first-timer.  Proud of that kiddo!

Happy Birthday, Buddy!  I’m so glad we got to spend your big day doing so many things that you love.  We look forward to every single moment of adventures with you.  Love you, kiddo!
