Chances are, you’ve never heard of Black Bolt. To be honest with you, I know very little about him. What I do know is that Louis loves this Marvel Superhero character and I wasn’t going to disappoint that sweet boy of mine. He requested a Black Bolt shirt and I delivered. (And I made him a hat as well!)
Who is Black Bolt and what does he do? He is one of the good guys. Currently, he is a character that shows up on the Agents of Smash tv show that Louis loves. Black Bolt is an inhuman, whose signature power is in his voice. Speaking triggers a massive disturbance in the form of a highly destructive shockwave capable of leveling a city. Due to the extreme danger posed by this power, the character has undergone rigorous mental training to prevent himself from uttering a sound, even in sleep, and he usually remains completely silent and communicates through sign language or via spokesperson.
Basically, he has a supersonic voice that could destroy anything in it’s path.
And Louis thinks Black Bolt is a total badass.
To get this look, I decided to try out Patterns for Pirates’ Deep Sea Vneck for the first time. I think it was one of the few patterns I didn’t own from her. Not any more! As you can see, I made the “v” part a liiiiitle off center. But it was my first v. Give me a break!
I hacked the pattern ever-so-sightly by adding Black Bolt’s wings in the armpits of the shirt. Because he wouldn’t let me make this in long sleeves, so the wings had to be a bit shorter/smaller than I had imagined. But I think it still worked out pretty well. And they don’t bother him so that’s a bonus. I was worried the extra fabric might be annoying there…but he has literally begged me to let him wear this top every day. So again, I think we did okay.
I paired this shirt with another P4P design :: the Captain Comfort Jeans. Woot! Love these!! This pair of pants is actually upcycled from one of Bennett’s old pair of cords. Let’s just say that I took A LOT of pleasure in cutting those pants up. A lot. Haha.
Plus, the results were an ADORABLE pair of pants for Louis that I didn’t have to pay a dime for. They fit perfect. He played in them all day today and they look like storebought pants. Win, win, win.
If I get around to it, maybe I’ll share a pattern for the hat that I made as well. A quick crochet project completed this entire outfit and Louis will have a new winter cap now too! I think kiddo looks pretty darn cool.
What do you think? How’d we do? I think Louis embodies the power of this superhero pretty darn well.
I can’t stop now with the superhero-inspired tops. Louis has requested at least two more tops and I have an idea of how I’ll make them happen. Bring it on, kiddo!
I’ve seen “Everyday Princess” dresses all over the sewing world.
Let’s call this “Everyday Superheroes”. Here are the outfits I’ve made him so far:
