Chef Louis’ Kitchen :: Chocolate Deejourie

May 17, 2016

We were home today doing some cleaning and Louis (out of the blue) says, “Hey guys.  I want to make dessert tonight.”

We couldn’t say no to that request.  He’d made up a name for it, come up with his own recipe on the spot, and was super excited to make something for us all on his own.  Even though it sounded a bit weird, we were all over it.  Off to the grocery store we went for his very specific ingredients.

Chocolate Deejourie by Louis McKinley

  • bread (not pound cake or anything sweet.  just straight up bread)
  • whipped cream in a can
  • cherries
  • chocolate syrup
  • cherries
  • chocolate sprinkles / ice cream toppings

Step 1: Put a slice of bread in some bowls.

Step 2: Empty an entire can of whipped cream as your second layer in those bowls.  No really, get in there.  Empty it.

Step 2.1: If by chance there’s a smidge left in the can, be sure to empty that part directly into your mouth.  It’ll probably get messy but that just makes the experience even better.

Step 3: Put a dab of chocolate syrup directly in the middle of the whipped cream.

Step 4: If desired, dump an insane amount of chocolate crunchies into your bowl as your next layer.

Step 5: Put two or three chunks of cherries off to the side of each bowl.  Because you’re just realizing that you bought canned instead of jarred cherries and now you’re not sure you’re going to like them.  But you won’t give up on them because it was part of the recipe you made up in your head.

Step 6: Admire the heck out of your newest dish.  Because even though it might not make complete sense, you still made it all by yourself.  And your parents will eat it because they want to encourage your creativity and efforts.

I still don’t quite understand the bread base.  But he was SO EXCITED to make and eat this (not all of it but some good bites) that it didn’t matter.  Bennett and I couldn’t be prouder of this big boy.

The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.  Purchasing from my links does not alter the pricing in any way for you, it simply helps feed my sewing, creating and blogging habits.  Thank you for your support!
