One of my favorite discoveries was a group called “Crafting Con“. Which consists of (mostly) women who are incredibly talented in sewing/creating AND are huge fangirls of all the nerdy things that I love. It’s the best.
Along with Crafting Con comes a friendly competition, which started in April and continues throughout the rest of the year. Each month has a different deliciously nerdy theme. Guess which one I RAN to the computer to sign up for? You betcha: STAR WARS.
I really wanted to make something from The Force Awakens, and step outside of the creative box a little. The movie is still new-ish enough that there haven’t been a ton of outfits created from it yet, and I wanted to challenge myself. (Why do I always want to challenge myself? Whyyyyy?)
Louis LOVES Kylo Ren. I should honestly be worried. But I think he just likes how badass and brooding he can be. Which is the opposite of my sweet, happy boy…so it’s fun to pretend. But picking a character that basically wears all black and then creating a non-costume version of it? Boy, I apparently wanted to torture myself, rather than challenge.
I used the Patterns for Pirates YoHo Henley as a base for the entire top. You can read more about the actual details of this “Ky-Lou Ren” outfit on my Crafting Con debut HERE.
My favorite pictures from the shoot are super silly…and were suggested by Louis. How could a kiddo pretending to be Kylo Ren resist that epic scene between Kylo and Han Solo? These boys. I love them so much. Even if Louis is totally taking out his Daddy.
I had a blast being able to stretch my creative wings for this. And I feel like I’ve successfully added to Lou’s closet of wearable dressup clothes.
