#KatyMade16

Dec 30, 2016

Last year, I recapped all of my favorite makes and collaged all of my instagram #KatyMade tags and I felt like it should happen again.  Maybe if no one else enjoys it, I at least love looking back at what I made over the past 365 days.

Creating a special hashtag for my “made” items on Instagram was one of my favorite decisions.  What a blast, being able to see everything you’ve managed to make and post in one spot!  You’d better believe that a 2017 version of this is happening as well!

I’m trying to narrow down my “favorite makes” of this past year.  It’s hard…because I feel like this was a very big year for me.  Most of which revolved around certain contests I got myself into.  So here are some things that stand out in my mind.

Favorite Nerdy Makes:

Okay, okay.  So they all revolved around Star Wars.  Is that such a surprise?  My blog stats are still hoppin’ because of the BB-8 Crochet Hat pattern.  I LOVE that we did a time lapse for the crazy button Boba Fett wall art.  Those paneled shorts were basically in the heaviest rotation possible this summer.  And my BB-8 peplum is probably one of the cutest and nerdiest pieces of clothing I own!

Proudest Sewing Moments:

I’ve never been so challenged, or emotionally exhausted, as I was for the Project Run + Play contest.  I busted my butt trying to come up with wearable, creative looks for Louis.  And I ran up against some heavy hitters in the sewing world…to come out tied for second place.  So yeah, you could say this was a proud moment in sewing for me.  The four looks: Who’s that Poketrainer | Well Dressed Fox | Dracu-Lou | You Need a Pilot.

Favorite Self-Care Sewing:

Oh man, this was too hard to narrow down.  So I just picked from the ones I actually managed to blog.  I LOVE the outfit that I made for our family photos.  Seriously…I wear these pieces all the time, and often together.  Buffalo plaid has a way of stealing the spotlight always for me…and this jacket is fabulous and warm and has been my only jacket all winter so far.  Not mad!  I never knew how good it would feel to sew myself a swimsuit that actually fit.  And then post pictures of myself on the internet.  But damnit, I love my suits this year!  And finally….this dress.  Which is softer and sweeter than my style usually is, but maybe that’s why I love it.

Best of Bennett:

Don’t let Bennett fool you, I really did a good bit of sewing for him this year!  And maybe they were a lot of raglans and pants…but hey!  It still happened, there is photographic proof!  I tried out the Jerry’s Raglan, had Bennett participate in the “Sew Americana” Tour with me, I made him some shorts with a fully functioning zipper (!!!) and Bennett is now a proud owner of some joggers.  Pretty sweet dude sewing, am I right?

Costuming at it’s Finest:

Costumes are probably my favorite thing to do, because they don’t need to follow any rules.  I think the McKinleys ROCKED our classic Halloween monsters this year.  And of course a recap post from this year wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Dancing With the Ohio Valley Stars.  I made my entire outfit, Walker’s shirt, and bedazzled his vest.  I’m pretty sure we were the only people on stage who could claim that much of the costuming process as well.  I’m just kicking myself that I never got proper pictures of them!

Not too shabby for a year in the life, eh?  There were really so many more things that never saw the light of day with photos…I really should try and document things more, but I get so caught up in everything that I forget.  Maybe I’ll try to have a more accurate depiction of my makes in the coming year.  Maybe??

Disclosure: As always, you’ll find some affiliate links scattered within my post, which means I receive a small amount of compensation if you end up purchasing something I’ve recommended.  Keep in mind that I link these companies and their products because of their quality and not because of the commission I receive from your purchases. The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.  Purchasing from my links does not alter the pricing in any way for you, it simply helps feed my sewing, creating and blogging habits.  Thank you for your support!
