It’s official. When we pick Louis up from school today at 11:30, he will be on summer break and we will have a First Grader living under our roof. FIRST GRADE. Dead…I’m just dead.
This year has just absolutely flown by. In a good way. (Minus all of the doctors visits due to 230948203948 illnesses during the last few months.) But damn, I feel like I needed more time to take it all in.
As parents, you are always being reflective and realizing your child is growing up and you can’t stop them. But you sometimes forget that it affects the child too. Louis has been extra snuggly and lovey the last few days. He’s been making and gifting Bennett and me presents left and right, and has just wanted to be around us a lot.
I finally asked him how he’s feeling about graduating from Kindergarten and he said that he’s nervous. He’s going to a new classroom with new teachers, and he’s afraid of having too much homework. Under all that excitement of graduating and growing up, and hitting new milestones is a kiddo who doesn’t always like big changes….a kiddo who is trying to hold onto things he’s comfortable with and already knows.
I totally get it.
Sorry to tell you, kid. But the changes and the growing keep happening. We are both going to just have to tough it out together. It’s a good thing you’re incredible and that all of it is worth it.
We are so proud of you, buddy. Happy Kindergarten Graduation! You’re in the big leagues now!
