Bennett’s “Mapa” Henley

Jun 16, 2017

Every once in a while, I make special effort to sew for Bennett.  The poor guy just doesn’t get as much love as Louis and me when it comes to sewing.  Most of the reason is that he’s SO DAMN PICKY about fabrics.  However, the latest Bellisima Mundo round from RP Custom Fabrics has allowed me to spoil that cute bearded husband of mine with some new garb.

Yay for customs groups who create things men will wear too!

I just think the “Mapa” print is the coolest.  Though a bunch of prints in this set of fabrics are rounds, Mapa is still a flat.  And you can get it in a few different sizes, so the prints will grow and shrink by the dimensions you’ve selected.  You can see one of the smaller flats in my dress featured on my blog HERE.

For Bennett’s top, I was sent a pretty basic yard cut.  I believe it’s listed on their site as a 36×58 panel.  And I had just enough to get the bodice and neckband out of it, with some contrasting sleeves from my stash.  I used the Men’s Henley from Patterns for Pirates because it’s one of my go-to’s for Bennett clothes.  Quick tshirts are my favorite and the fit is great for him.  No need to mess with a good thing, right?

Obviously I omitted the henley placket for this top.  I really do like the collar on the henley but I wanted the map to do the talking on this shirt, so I left it be and used the traditional tee neckband (which is included in the pattern).

I totally hemmed the sleeves in a contrasting thread color thinking I liked it.  And I do.  Except in photos.  Why Katy?  Why did you make that decision?  All I can stare at are his sleeves in this photo.  Haha.  Damnit.

I’m looking forward to this shirt being added to Bennett’s rotation of clothes.  It’s fun and different but not over the top.  And the quality and detail of the map is on point.  I hope he loves it!

Before I go, allow me to share these photos of Bennett.  I threatened that I would!  Whenever I ask him to take photos, he’s great.  But then makes these stupid faces and also spends half the time doing bad renditions of “Katy Poses”.  So here are some Bennett gems for you.  I think the last one should be titled: LLCB – Ladies Love Cool Bennett.  Hahah.
