Just Write Skirt by Patterns for Pirates

Aug 1, 2019

I love sharing new patterns on here, but it’s extra super special when I get to share patterns that I’ve created.  Yesterday, we officially launched the newest freebie over at Patterns for Pirates: the Just Write Skirt.

Let me tell you that naming a skirt with pencils all over it, and not calling it a “pencil skirt” was darn near impossible for me.  No worries, I punned it up and I think the name is quite fitting.

At it’s core, the Just Write Skirt is a basic elastic-gathered waistband, a-line style skirt.  But beyond that, it’s created by sewing up multiples of this patchwork pencil panel.  I did lots of mathing to figure out how to make the pencil pieces not change in width, only in length for the youth sizes.  That way, the aesthetic was exactly the same for each skirt, only the number of panels you made had to change.

The pattern is drafted for sizes Youth 2 – Adult Plus 2x…which means it fits a whole range of bodies and sizes.  And is easily adjusted to add more panels, for more fullness in your skirt.

Side note: Thank you Mrs. T for teaching me math all throughout my high school years.  It’s really paid off.

Though essentially quilting an entire skirt can sound daunting, it really goes a lot quicker than you’d think!  I even created a step-by-step video tutorial that will walk you through the steps of creating one of the pencil panels.

I’m pretty excited to see all of the creations that come out of this sweet little pattern.  I have plans to turn the panel into one of my clutches…so stay tuned for that masterpiece!

Will I be seeing a Just Write Skirt from you soon?

The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.  Purchasing from my links does not alter the pricing in any way for you, it simply helps feed my sewing, creating and blogging habits.  Thank you for your support!
