It’s the official reveal day for Patterns for Pirates’ fabric subscription service: FABRIC for Pirates! It feels like I’ve been waiting for F-O-R-E-V-E-R to show you what I made! Because I love it so much!
The fabric we chose for this month is a ribbed sweater knit with lurex, in a silver color. We thought it would be perfect for the holiday season that is upon us. Lurex is a type of yarn with a metallic element to it, so when it’s woven into fabrics like this — it gives a little glitz and glamour without being super overwhelming. Who doesn’t like a little extra shimmer shine in their wardrobe?
I chose to make the P4P Sweetheart Dress, in a peplum length. As per my usual sewing antics, I made a couple of adjustments.
- Added 1″ to the bodice piece. P4P drafts for an 8″ side waist length, mine is 9″. Without that added length, patterns that are meant to hit my natural waist end up being more of an empire look…which isn’t exactly favorable on my busty frame for the most part.
- Turned the circle skirt peplum piece into a “high-low” peplum instead. I added a couple of inches to the length of the peplum circle, and then opened up the circle, re-folded it, and then cut my waist opening. I did a sewalong (what feels like FOREVER ago) on P4P’s blog, where I explained how to make a high-low skirt. If you want to do this for yourself….I explain it much better HERE.
- Adjusted the neckline, by lowering it about 1.5″. I personally feel choked out by higher necklines. So if there’s one that is more “crew” height, you will almost always find me cutting it lower.
- Appliquéd this adorable lace + beaded number to the neckline. I’ve had this forever, sent to me in a fabric package from someone and I never had the perfect use for it….until now. Isn’t it just darling?!
We opened up more membership seats in the Fabric for Pirates subscription program, PS. So if you’re wanting to get a little monthly sewing surprise sent to you, with fabric hand selected by myself and the Pirate Captain Judy….you should probably join us. It’s SO. FUN.

I would be remiss if I didn’t include these photos in this post as well. We took advantage of me having the camera out already, to snag some family photos for our Christmas cards this year. To answer your question before you even ask it: Yes, we are totally always an adorable family full of mushy love. ♥️
