Fabric for Pirates :: May 2021 Reveal

May 15, 2021

it’s May 15th, which means it’s Fabric for Pirates reveal day!!  WOOOO!!  Welcome back to another month of sharing what we sent out to the subscribers over at Patterns for Pirates.

This month’s fabric is a “Judy pick” if I’ve ever seen one.  She’s one of those people who gravitates towards soft, subtle tones, and not so many prints.  Which is totally the opposite of me — and makes for a really fun debate when we are trying to figure out what we want to send each month, haha.

It is a Rayon Viscose Crepe Slub Knit (Width: 58/60″ GSM: 190.00 Material: 97%RAYON 3%SPANDEX) in a sage green color.  It’s got the best drape ever, is super stretchy, and incredibly soft.  It’s the perfect tshirt fabric ever, if you ask me.  Which is why I didn’t hesitate to turn mine into a Sweet Tee.

I shamefully have not made a Sweet Tee in a really long time.  It’s been hanging out on the sidelines, waiting for me to find it in my pattern stash and make something fabulous.  Which exactly what happened!  I actually had to reprint my pattern because I’ve been doing a lot of working out lately — and my body is in this constant changing mode.  So in order to fit my new measurements, I had to go a size down in this delightful dolman style top.

I forgot how quick this pattern is to sew up.  I only made it a slightly longer ordeal by adding this lace applique to the front bodice.  It’s giving me all the RBG vibes, isn’t it for you too?  I’m almost wondering if I should have saved it for a black shirt, so I could wear my own little version of a dissent collar.  But alas, I sewed it to this gorgeous fabric and now have one of my favorite tops to rock around.  So all is well in the world, not to worry.

And in case you didn’t know enough about the Fabric for Pirates subscription yet — here are the deets:

Sign up! Receive! Sew!  We all love fabric, sewing and color… our goal is to deliver some amazing fabrics to you — of which you can turn around and make some amazing things for yourself, your loved ones, or your shop. Each month, you will receive 2-yards of knit fabrics (on varying bases) in the mail. Most of the time it will be a continuous 2-yard length, but we might surprise you with some coordinating prints from time to time too.

The Fabric for Pirates subscription price is $30 and includes shipping. Right now, we are keeping it to US + Canada delivery only, but we hope to open it up beyond that soon!

You’ll get a fun surprise goodie included that we think most sewist would love along with videos, tips, and inspiration on what your fabric could be! One last treat in your monthly subscription is an exclusive discount code for you to use on any P4P pattern. So if your new fabric is begging for a new pattern you’ll have a coupon code to use!  **Payments process on the 1st of every month.

What I like most about surprise subscription services like this is that it really pushes you outside of your norm.  Like, really — I would never have chosen this fabric for myself.  But now that it’s in my life, I’m super happy that Judy picked it for our May shipment.

Pattern: Sweet Tee from Patterns for Pirates
Lace Applique: 2-Piece Set from Amazon

Disclosure: As always, you’ll find some affiliate links scattered within my post, which means I receive a small amount of compensation if you end up purchasing something I’ve recommended.  Keep in mind that I link these companies and their products because of their quality and not because of the commission I receive from your purchases. The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.  Purchasing from my links does not alter the pricing in any way for you, it simply helps feed my sewing, creating and blogging habits.  Thank you for your support!
