I’m excitedly here today to tell you about the latest pattern release from Patterns for Pirates: the Paperbag Pants + Skirt!! This is a constantly requested pattern style that Judy finally gave into and created for us. And I’m so glad she did. Because it’s super duper adorable.
This pattern was drafted with woven (non-stretch) fabrics in mind, an elastic encased waistband, high-waisted fit, and a cute little ruffle top. You can easily use a stretch fabric if you prefer, just make sure it’s more on the stable side….think: french terry, ponte, liverpool, etc. There are two length of shorts (3″ + 5″ inseam), an ankle-length capri, and two skirt lengths (mini + knee). You can also pop on the patch pockets as an option, as well as add some belt loops and a tie belt for a little extra cute!
Options I made:
- XL
- 3″ inseam shorts
- Patch pockets
- Belt loops (and then I left off the belt anyway, ha.)
Otherwise, I made no adjustments. I sewed a straight size, with no changes. Perfect fit!
Honestly, I wasn’t super sure about this style on me. Although I’m not sure why, because lately all I’ve been doing is wearing mid-to-high waisted bottoms and tucking my shirt into them somehow. So you’d think this would be right up my alley. Sometimes I need to get out of my own way and just let the experts tell me how to dress, ha.
I paired these shorts with a simple Basic Tee - Womens as a top. It has a slim enough silhouette that it didn’t create any bunching while wearing it tucked in, but it also is more “body skimming” than “body hugging”, so it’s a super comfy shirt to wear. With pretty much anything. I’m a pretty big fan of this entire look. What do you think?
