Let’s be honest. When you saw that the new Rainbow Dress pattern from Patterns for Pirates had a Peter Pan collar, you KNEW that I’d be making a Wednesday Addams dress. Didn’t you? Because seriously that’s the first thing I thought of and I was so excited to make this for myself!
I don’t even care that Wednesday isn’t a redhead. I needed to become her! How could I not??
Well, okay. I’m not that great of an actress. Especially when it requires me to do anything but smile with all of my teeth in a photo. I’m just smiley, I can’t help it. I not exactly going to be able to embody any of the Addams family members, but I sure can make an outfit that shows my love of those movies and Halloween.
P to the S: is it freaking October yet or what?
Bennett made fun of me for making this dress. He was all “isn’t it still August??” and I was all “Why are you asking questions like this?”
My Wednesday dress includes all of these elements from the Rainbow Dress pattern:
- Gathered long sleeves.
- Higher neckline + Peter Pan collar.
- Basic skirt.
- Added 1″ to bodice for side waist adjustments.
I’m not really one for a high neckline. But when there’s a fun collar involved….I totally change my tune. I would HIGHLY recommend using an interfacing in the collar before attaching it to your dress. Otherwise you’ll run into what I did (I didn’t use interfacing because I didn’t have any on hand) and the collar will give you fits, be all wonky/wavy and you’ll end up breaking down and just topstitching it to the dress bodice.
Don’t be like me. Use the right items that are suggested in the pattern instructions. Make life easier on yourself! Learn from my mistakes!
One of the best elements of this new pattern are the sleeves. OH THE SLEEVES!! I’m such a lover of fun sleeves. And this particular pattern is drafted to include both a fitted sleeve, and these freaking amazing gathered sleeves.
There is a long, 3/4 and short sleeved version for the gathers and it’s gathered at both the sleeve cap and the sleeve hem…finishing them all with a cuff. I super need to make a short sleeved version because the little bubble it creates at that length is to die for.
Can you tell I’m a big fan of this new sewing pattern?
Not only is Rainbow Dress a gorgeous new pattern, but it comes with some extra rainbow love. 10% of every purchase will be donated annually to the Trevor Project, in honor of our rainbow of friends in the sewing communities.
