Fabric for Pirates :: March 2022 Reveal

Mar 15, 2022

Happy Fabric for Pirates reveal day!  Like the broken record I am, I’m super excited to show you this month’s fabric that we shipped.  It’s deliciously soft, a gorgeous print AND perfect for this time of year when the weather doesn’t know what it wants to do!

Here are the fabric details:

Yummy” Thermal Knit Width: 58/60″ GSM: 180.00 Material: 94% POLYESTER 6% SPANDEX

I decided to be boring and use the same pattern I’ve been sewing basically every F4P ever, ha.  Am I shocking you by making another Favorite Tee top?  Probably not.  BUT, I did take it up a slight bit by adding a braided neckline.  I’ve been wanting to do this on a shirt for a while now (for no reason in particular) and it felt like a better time than any to try it out!  These little touches help make things a little spicier and fun, don’t you think?

I’ve played with my fair share of thermal fabrics, but this is the first time I’ve used this exact base.  And I kinda love it.  I actually made something for my entire family with it, as well as this adorable teeny tiny baby romper for my co-worker’s soon-to-be-here baby boy!  Isn’t it just the sweetest? My co-worker’s husband is the principal at Bennett’s school, so it felt right to make a special school spirit outfit for their little one.  Squee!  Imagine the amount of outfits Louis would have had, had I been apparel sewing at that stage in my life.  Maybe it’s a good thing I started this journey a little later than that, ha.

Of course, the print and color we chose is great for St. Patrick’s Day, but I think it’s pretty stellar for all times of year.  I’m not nearly as into tie dye as my kiddo is, but I love it all the same.  And this is kind of a down-played tie dye.  Enough so that Bennett will even wear it, and he’s not really a print kinda guy.

What do you think?  Do you dig this month’s fabric?  What would you have made with it?

Do you have a tutorial for the braided neckband? I love it!

I don’t, but it was fairly easy. It’s possible it wasn’t the “right way” to do things…but it still worked and that’s all that matters, right?

I cut 3″ strips of fabric, turned them into tubes and then braided them. Then made the braid slightly longer than the neckband piece for the pattern, sewed the ends together to make a tube, and then stitched it to the raw neckline opening.
