Boundless Knit Dress by Patterns for Pirates

Aug 4, 2015

GUESS WHAT?!  Patterns for Pirates just released a new dress pattern and it. is. awesome.  I was one of the lucky gals that got to test for this particular pattern.  And girls, you are going to love this dress.

The Boundless Knit Dress pattern has boundless looks (ba-dum-ching):
— Empire or at-waist bodice
— Sleeveless, short sleeves, 3/4 sleeves, or long sleeves.
— Mini, knee, tea and maxi length.
— Optional pockets!

I think my favorite part of this design is the scoop neck/back.  The bodice is the same on the front and back…and it is sexy.  On everyone.  No joke.  You should go check out all of the tester images [HERE] if you don’t believe me.

Oh!  And something else fun about this pattern is that the bodice is fully lined.  So for those of you out there that hate/are afraid of knit binding…this is your pattern!

The black/floral dress was made in a rayon blend that I got in a Knit Fix set…so I can’t go back and check my order for the actual content of the fabric.  And I also suck at identifying fabrics.  Sorry!  But I did line the bodice with a heftier spandex blend.  They meshed together nicely.

But I didn’t stop there!  No sireebob!  I made ANOTHER dress.  One of my galpals (and another tester in the group) posted a picture of a lace overlay top dress and I HAD to make my own version of it. I’ve had some stretch lace laying around for a while now and this was the perfect way to use it.

Seriously.  I’m dying over this dress.

Both dresses were sewn with the empire waist.  The floral dress is cut at knee length with long sleeves and I made this lace number with short sleeves (unhemmed because I didn’t want to mess with hemming thin lace) and I actually cut the skirt at 22″….which was shorter than the knee length but longer than mini.  So right in between.

I love the fact that this pattern is for all body types and it doesn’t make me look pregnant.  Sometimes, having a gathered waist is just asking for people to question when you’re due.  It sucks.  I’ve had it happen.  When the skirt has too much gathering…it’s just all sorts of unflattering.

This pattern doesn’t make me look or feel pregnant.  In fact, I feel darn right awesome in them.  So it’s a win in my book!

I keep kicking myself that I forgot to add pockets in BOTH dresses of mine.  Both.  Seriously, Katy?  (Sounds like I’ll just have to go and make yet another one for my closet, haha.)

And just so I don’t break the new “taking terrible photos of me because so many self-portraits starts to get to me” trend…I leave you with these.  You’re welcome, Internet.
