The Little Mermaid

Oct 25, 2017

With the release of the new Wiggle Dress from Patterns for Pirates, I KNEW I needed to be ridiculous and make something over the top.  I’m so extra it hurts sometimes.  The pattern has an amazing floor length option, with a mermaid-style skirt finish…and I couldn’t stop myself.  I needed to make a mermaid outfit.

I needed to.  It had to be done.

There really weren’t many adjustments to make to the pattern.  There is a crop top line on the Wiggle Dress, and I simply cut my bodice there.  And then cut my skirt from that line as well.  And added the waistband measurement provided by the pattern to both my skirt and top.  Wham, bam and done!  A beautifully easy costume for this Halloween.

We’ve included it as one of the Easy Hacks over on the P4P blog, in case you want to see what else can be done with this fabulous pattern.

The Wiggle Dress was made with curves in mind.  There’s a back seam to help you get the most out of your fabric, but also to curve and shape right along your booty and hips.  It’s seriously such a sexy pattern and looks amazing on every size.  Don’t believe me?  Go look at our tester album on Facebook.  STUNNING.

I’d already owned this wig, for my costuming needs this year.  But it was a perfect addition to this whole ensemble.  Why can’t my hair grow this long in real life?  I want actual mermaid hair and I swear it stops growing after it hits just past my shoulders.  Rude.

All in all, I feel absolutely a-dorkable in this outfit.  It’s my perfect version of a Halloween costume because I’m covered up but still showing what my momma gave me.  There’s no shame in that, am I right?
