Fabric for Pirates :: May 2022 Reveal

May 15, 2022

It’s the best kind of day because it’s Fabric for Pirates reveal day!  The 15th of each month means I get to share what I made with my monthly fabric shipment — and watch all of the photos roll in from all of the gorgeous makes everyone else sewed up with theirs.  It’s so fun!

We sent fabric inspired by the upcoming spring and summer months.  It’s neon yellow + white, has a delightful drape and weight, and makes for easy pairing with a ton of patterns.

What’d I make?  Something that I haven’t in a while, actually: the Slim Fit Raglan. And I lurrrrve the results.

What are the full fabric details?  Glad you asked!

Yarn Dyed Ribbed Knit
Width: 52/24″
GSM: 180.00
Material: 80% Polyester / 16% Rayon / 4% Spandex

Because I can’t seem to leave anything alone these days, I was like….you know what I’m going to do?  I’m going to make a raglan and then annoy myself by topstitching stretch lace over the sleeve seams.  And I did just that!  I actually love the results, just the thread I was using had a small piece of the spindle sticking up just enough that my thread kept getting caught on it….and it was the rudest thing ever.  RUDEST. THING. EVER.  Things should always just play nice, ya know?

I just thought it was fun because it kinda calls out the raglan lines, while still using the same fabric for both the sleeves and bodice.

In case you didn’t know enough about the Fabric for Pirates subscription yet — here you go:

Sew!  We all love fabric, sewing and color… our goal is to deliver some amazing fabrics to you — of which you can turn around and make some amazing things for yourself, your loved ones, or your shop. Each month, you will receive 2-yards of knit fabrics (on varying bases) in the mail. Most of the time it will be a continuous 2-yard length, but we might surprise you with some coordinating prints from time to time too. The Fabric for Pirates subscription price is $30 and includes shipping.

You’ll get a fun surprise goodie included that we think most sewist would love along with videos, tips, and inspiration on what your fabric could be! One last treat in your monthly subscription is an exclusive discount code for you to use on any P4P pattern. So if your new fabric is begging for a new pattern you’ll have a coupon code to use!  **Payments process on the 1st of every month.

Wanna know my favorite thing about a fabric subscription?  Even though I’m half of the party that decides on what we send each month, the fabric isn’t always in my comfort zone.  Or taste.  Neon yellow isn’t always the first thing I’m going to grab at while fabric shopping.  But allowing myself the chance to create a new article of clothing with fabric not in my typical wheelhouse and then style it for photos means that I actually give it a real try.

And almost every time….that new piece of clothing becomes one of my favorites.  (A great example is the fabric from exactly a year ago…May 2021.  SOOOO not my color scheme.  And now one of my. most repeated tops.)

What do you think?  Would you give this fabric a go?  What would you make with it?

The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you.  Purchasing from my links does not alter the pricing in any way for you, it simply helps feed my sewing, creating and blogging habits.  Thank you for your support!
